The Grand Duchy (as opposed to the Belgian province) has no specific brewing tradition. Its five breweries produce standard Pilsener-derivatives, plus the odd unfiltered, dark or strong lager. The most characterful are those from the smallest brewery, Battin, of Esch sur Alzette, in the old coal and steel area. In Luxembourg City, the Mousel brewery has its own "tap": Mousel's Cantine, 46 Montée de Clausen. Closed Sunday.
