HopDevil wins at GBBF
The appropriately named HopDevil, from the Victory Brewing Company, of Downingtown, Pennsylvania, was chosen as Champion U.S. Cask-Conditioned Brew at the Great British Beer Festival this week. This was an unofficial judging, organised by the festival's foreign section, Bieres Sans Frontieres. There were four preliminary panels, plus a fifth to judge the final round.
Twenty beers were tasted. I was not available to judge, which may be just as well, as I am somewhat addicted to HopDevil. Second place went to another of my favorites, Perkuno Porter, from Heavweight Brewing, of Ocean Township, New Jersey.
At the main even, the Champion Beer of Britain was a popular choice: Deuchar's IPA, from Caledonian Brewery, of Edinburgh Scotland. The silver medal went to a strong bitter, East Street Cream, from the RCH brewery, in Somerset, in the West of England. The bronze went to a "best" bitter, Triple FFF, from Hampshire, in the Southwest.
